Grade 9 (3Al-2.5V) Aerospace titanium alloys EFW Tubes
Oct 20, 2025
Titanium Grade 9, also known as Ti-3Al-2.5V, is a titanium alloy that offers a balanced combination of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance.
The chemical composition of Titanium Grade 9 is as follows:
Approximately 90%
3%
2.5%
Titanium Grade 9 is a versatile alloy, ideal for applications where a balance between strength, weight, and formability is required. It is particularly favored in industries like aerospace, sports equipment, and marine applications.

Titanium Grade 9 is significantly stronger than commercially pure titanium grades like Grade 2 but not as strong as Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V).
It has a tensile strength of around 620 MPa (90 ksi), providing a good balance between strength and weight.
Similar to other titanium alloys, Grade 9 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in oxidizing and mildly reducing environments.
It is resistant to corrosion in seawater and a variety of industrial environments, making it suitable for marine and chemical applications.
One of the key advantages of Titanium Grade 9 is its superior formability compared to stronger alloys like Grade 5.
It can be cold-worked more easily, making it ideal for applications requiring complex shapes or for use in manufacturing processes like tube forming.
Grade 9 offers good weldability, though care must be taken to avoid contamination during the welding process, which is typical for titanium alloys.
Used in hydraulic tubing, fuel lines, and other components where a combination of moderate strength and weight savings is needed.
Commonly used in high-end bicycle frames and golf clubs due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and formability.
Suitable for marine hardware and components exposed to seawater.
Sometimes used in medical applications, though more often titanium alloys with higher biocompatibility are preferred.
~4.48 g/cm³, providing a good strength-to-weight ratio.
~1649℃ (3000℃F), similar to other titanium alloys, offering stability in high-temperature applications.
Lower than that of steel and aluminum, which may be advantageous or a limitation depending on the application.
